MOVING PETS
When it comes to traveling, pets are rather like babies- they can't really communicate except by crying or falling ill. All animals-pets included- have an instinctive fear of new surroundings. When it comes to moving, you have to pay special attention to the issue of transporting your pets.This article provides some general tips, as well as information on health and regulation issues, transporting pets by air and by car. General tips
Pets cannot be transported in the moving van or truck, nor are they permitted on trains or buses (seeing-eye dogs accompanying blind persons are the only exception.) This leaves you with two choices: 1) by air, accompanying you or as airfreight, and 2) in your personal motor vehicle.
Have one member of the family assume responsibility of the pets. Travel arrangements for you pets should be completed in advance; minimize moving-day tasks.
Discuss the transportation of your pets with your travel agents; they would be in a position to offer useful suggestions or assist with the necessary travel arrangements.
You might also find a pet handling agency that will take care of all the details of shipping pets, including boarding, pick-up, and delivery.
Check the destination state's pet entry regulations. Apply for an entry permit if one is needed. Obtain a travel identification tag.
Take your pets to veterinarian for a checkup and health documents. Inquire about sedation for pet and ask your vet to recommend a colleague at your new location.
