How to Choose a Moving Company

Moving is certainly a stressful job. Relocating should be one of the important events in your life that must be carried out hands-on. How to choose a moving company is one consideration that you have to take.

The Move of Your Life

While there are a lot of moving companies available in the market, choosing which moving company to take is another demanding task. Before making a choice, make the habit of talking to these moving companies and asking the services and the prices being offered by them. And be sure to secure a copy of the consumer booklet that explains in detail your rights and responsibilities as a mover as well as your involvement in a Dispute Settlement Program. This is a requirement provided by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for interstate movers to settle disputes in case of loss or damage on the shipped household items. You are also advised to inquire from your friends or neighbors of their past experiences with certain moving companies. By doing so, you will be able to evaluate which of the moving companies you would hire.

American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) has provided a list of moving companies who are members of their organization. Moving companies in this organization have agreed on tariff rates and abide by the rules mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation consistently. While no particular moving company is recommended, it is advised that the mover you choose be a member of AMSA.
