Moving is a major event and you may be stuck with the costs of moving unless you have an employer willing to cover the costs. If this is not an option for you there are basically only two ways to move. One being you rent a truck and do it yourself and the other being that you hire packers/movers to do it for you.
No matter how you choose to do your moving it is possible to avoid the hidden. All you need is to be smart about moving. You probably have already budgeted money for the moving but you should also budget some extra money so as to be prepared for any "hidden costs".
As with anything you should first research and compare full- service moving with at least six different companies. When you have all the information about moving companies it is wise to then compare that information to the costs of doing it yourself. This will allow you to make an informed decision as to which way is best for you to move.
Hiring a full service mover might be the least stressful way to move but you will be paying a lot more in labor costs. Some are paid by the hour while others are paid by the job. Both forms of contracts have advantages and disadvantages, so you must study the contract, talk with company representatives, and get referrals from former customers to know which contract is best for you.

Charges for the workers having to walk a distance to the truck, use stairs or an elevator

Questions to ask yourself:
- Am I insured to drive the rental truck?
- Does my homeowners insurance cover property damaged while moving?
- Is the rental truck in good shape?
- Do I have enough money to use on the road?
